Akaaba Improv is a Beirut-based improv company founded in 2019 with over 400 shows and a mission to expand improv across the Arab world.

History

Akaaba Improv was founded in Beirut in 2019 and rapidly built one of the most active performance schedules in the Arab improv sector, accumulating more than 400 shows in its first years of operation. The company worked through the disruptions of Lebanon's economic crisis and the 2020 Beirut port explosion, continuing to produce work in a city that had become a hub for Arabic-language arts despite severe structural pressures. Akaaba extended its reach beyond Lebanon, working to develop improv practice across the Arabic-speaking world.

Artistic Identity

Akaaba operates with a mission to expand improv comedy throughout the Arab world, positioning itself as both a Beirut-based performance company and a catalyst for regional improv development.

Legacy

With more than 400 shows and an explicit regional development mission, Akaaba established Beirut as a production base for Arabic-language improv and a hub for the broader Arab improv community.
