American Improv is Vienna's first English-language improv theatre and school, running a four-level Chicago-style curriculum and a weekly Monday night show at Cafe Aera.
History
American Improv was founded in Vienna in 2020, positioning itself as the first organisation in Austria to offer English-language improv training and performance in the Chicago tradition. The company launched a structured four-level curriculum modelled on the conservatory-style training programmes developed by Chicago's major improv institutions, making that approach available to Vienna's international and local English-speaking community. The Monday night weekly show at Cafe Aera quickly became the sole regular English-language improv comedy performance in the city.
Artistic Identity
American Improv applies Chicago-style improv pedagogy to the Vienna context, offering a sequenced four-level training track alongside a consistent weekly performance platform.
Legacy
As Austria's first English-language improv theatre, American Improv established the infrastructure for a continuing Chicago-style improv community in Vienna.
