GbgImpro (Goborgs Improvisationsteater) is Gothenburg's primary improvisation theater company, founded in 2005, and one of the most established improv ensembles in Sweden. Based at Redbergsteatern in Gothenburg's Bagaregarden district, the company maintains a roster of approximately twelve freelance actors and theater educators and offers performances in comedy, drama, adventure, musical, and family formats throughout the year. Since 2023 GbgImpro has also directed the Improfest festival.

History

GbgImpro was established in 2005 as Gothenburg's home for professional improvisational theater and built its reputation over the following two decades as one of Sweden's foremost improv companies. The ensemble performs regular seasons at Redbergsteatern in autumn and spring while also touring across Sweden for corporate events and public performances. The company took over direction of the Improfest festival in 2023, running both a Gothenburg edition and an extended Stockholm edition, elevating its role within the Swedish improv community. Corporate programming has provided improv-based services for professional development to private and public-sector organizations throughout Sweden.

Artistic Identity

GbgImpro creates stories on stage using theatrical technique and audience input, consistently in the heat of the moment, across a wider range of genres than most Nordic improv companies. The ensemble covers comedy, drama, adventure, afterwork formats, musical improv, and family matinees, reflecting a commitment to serving diverse audiences rather than specialising in a single style. The company's freelance-based structure draws on some of Sweden's most experienced improvisers and educators.
