Impro Neuf is Oslo's largest improv community, based at Chateau Neuf and operating as an association within Det Norske Studentersamfund, the Norwegian student society. Founded in 2015 by Terje Brevik, the organization offers workshops and shows in both Norwegian and English, and hosts the annual Oslo Impro Festival.

History

Impro Neuf was formed in 2015 when Terje Brevik took the initiative to build a broad, inclusive improv community in Oslo. Brevik served as the organization's elected leader from its founding through 2019, during which time Impro Neuf grew from a small initiative into an organization with three ensembles (Norwegian, English, and musical), more than twenty active teams, two weekly shows, and two weekly open drop-in classes. In 2017, Brevik founded the Oslo Impro Festival under the Impro Neuf banner; by 2025 the festival had reached its seventh edition, featuring over fifty acts and more than two hundred local and international artists. The organization operates from Lillesalen and Chateau Neuf, and maintains programming partnerships with Det Norske Studentersamfund.

Artistic Identity

Impro Neuf positions itself explicitly as an inclusive community organization, welcoming participants of all experience levels through free beginner workshops and open sessions. The group's bilingual programming, in Norwegian and English, reflects a commitment to serving both the local Norwegian population and Oslo's international resident community.
