Liga Profesional de Improvisación
The Liga Profesional de Improvisacion (LPI) is Argentina's professional improv league, centred on the Match format of theatrical improvisation.
History
The Liga Profesional de Improvisacion grew out of Argentina's adoption of the theatrical improvisation match format pioneered in Quebec in the 1970s and adapted across the Spanish-speaking world. The LPI formalised professional-level competitive improv in Argentina, establishing the infrastructure for match-based performance as a recurring professional format in Buenos Aires. The organisation became a reference point for the competitive improv sector in the country and influenced the founding of regional leagues across Argentina and neighbouring countries.
Artistic Identity
The LPI centres on the Match, a structured competitive format featuring two teams performing against each other under a referee, with audience involvement in judging or scoring.
Legacy
As Argentina's professional improv league, the LPI established the match as a durable professional format and served as a model for the regional leagues that subsequently emerged across the country.
