Os Improváveis

Os Improvaveis premiered their first show in 2008 at Teatro Casa da Comedia in Lisbon, establishing themselves as the country's first professional improv ensemble. The founding members trained at institutions including iO Chicago, Second City, The Annoyance Theatre, Upright Citizens Brigade, and schools in Amsterdam, Rio de Janeiro, and Berlin. From 2011, the group expanded into teaching, and in 2012 they launched Portugal's first annual improvisation course for actors and non-actors. Over more than fifteen years of activity the group reached milestones including one thousand performances and audiences totaling over one hundred and ten thousand spectators, with more than forty international tours and engagements with over one hundred corporate clients. Formats developed by the ensemble include ImproKids, a show for children, and ImproFado, a long-form performance that integrates the Portuguese fado tradition.

Os Improvaveis works across short-form, long-form, applied corporate, and educational formats, treating improvisation as both a performing art and a practical discipline with broad social and professional applications. The ensemble's creation of culturally specific formats, particularly ImproFado, reflects a commitment to rooting international improv practice within Portuguese artistic traditions.

Os Improvaveis holds a foundational position in the history of Portuguese theatre, having introduced professional improvisational performance to the country, built its first formal improv training infrastructure, and sustained international exchange activity that placed Lisbon on the European improv map.
