Recycled Minds Comedy
Recycled Minds Comedy is a Boise, Idaho improv and sketch comedy organization founded in 2002 by Sean Hancock, relaunched in 2011 as a partnership with Heath Harmison after Hancock trained at UCB and The Groundlings and performed at iO West. Operating at 121 E 34th St, Recycled Minds is the Treasure Valley's longest-running comedy brand, presenting improv, sketch, classes, and corporate training.
History
Founding (2002)
Sean Hancock created Recycled Minds in 2002 as one of the first troupes combining sketch and improv comedy in a weekly show in the Treasure Valley, establishing a comedy presence in Boise at a time when dedicated improv organizations were rare in the region.
Hiatus and Relaunch (2011)
After the initial run, Hancock took time off to study improv at UCB and The Groundlings in Los Angeles and perform at iO West and other venues, gaining extensive training before returning to Boise. In 2011 he relaunched Recycled Minds as a partnership with stand-up comedian Heath Harmison, bringing a more developed skill set to the Treasure Valley comedy scene.
Growth and Ongoing Operations
The relaunched Recycled Minds grew into a full comedy organization at 121 E 34th St in Boise, offering shows, corporate training, and classes. As the Treasure Valley's longest-running comedy brand, the organization serves the Boise metropolitan area as its primary multi-format comedy institution.
Artistic Identity
Recycled Minds Comedy presents a hybrid improv-and-sketch format alongside stand-up programming, drawing on Hancock's training at UCB and The Groundlings and his performance experience at iO West. The multi-format approach reflects the Treasure Valley's comedy ecology, where a single organization must cover multiple disciplines to serve a market that lacks the institutional density of larger cities.
