LocationBugsy's Celebrity Theatre, Flamingo Hotel, Las Vegas, NV

The Second City Las Vegas was a resort residency opened in March 2001 at Bugsy's Celebrity Theatre inside the Flamingo Las Vegas hotel on the Strip. Presenting a Best of Second City revue format with nine performers and a musical director, the company offered Las Vegas audiences the scripted-sketch-with-improvised-second-act format developed at The Second City's Chicago flagship. The residency closed in July 2008 when the Flamingo lease expired, after the theatre had been required to share the room with X Burlesque from 2007.

History

Opening at the Flamingo (2001)

The Second City Las Vegas opened at Bugsy's Celebrity Theatre inside the Flamingo Las Vegas hotel in March 2001, bringing the Second City revue format to the Las Vegas Strip. The company ran nine performers and a musical director, presenting a Best of Second City program alongside improvised segments in the tradition of the Chicago parent company.

Shared Room and Closure (2007 to 2008)

In February 2007 the Flamingo required The Second City Las Vegas to share its performance room with the X Burlesque show, creating operational difficulties for the company. When the Flamingo lease expired at the end of July 2008 it was not renewed. Second City's publicist indicated at the time that the company was in negotiations with other Strip casinos, but no new Las Vegas location materialized.

Artistic Identity

The Second City Las Vegas operated as a resort residency rather than a full Second City campus, presenting the Best of Second City revue format for Strip hotel audiences without an independent training center component.
