Stjarnfall is a professional Swedish-language improvisational theatre company based in Helsinki, Finland, founded in 1996. The ensemble comprises professional actors, musicians, and lighting designers who perform long and short narrative forms, musicals, and soap operas developed live from audience suggestion. Operating at the intersection of Finland's Swedish-speaking minority culture and the broader Nordic improv scene, Stjarnfall has maintained an active performing and educational programme for nearly three decades.

History

Founded in 1996, Stjarnfall grew into a company of approximately ten actors, two musicians, and two lighting designers, with more than twenty-five performers having participated over its history. The company competed in the Finnish national improvisational theatre competition Impromestaruuskisat, reaching the finals in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. Stjarnfall participated in the Finnish improv Biennale in 2014 and has invited guest teachers from internationally recognized ensembles including performers associated with The Daily Show, BATS Theater, and other notable companies. Alongside public performance, the group has offered corporate training and educational workshops for schools, organizations, and private events throughout its history.

Artistic Identity

Stjarnfall treats improvisation as a life philosophy as much as a performance discipline, emphasizing imagination, humor, and curiosity as core values both on and off stage. The company's Swedish-language operation gives it a distinct cultural position within Finland, serving the Finland-Swedish community while remaining connected to international improv networks through guest programmes and festival participation.
