TBC Improv HK is the Hong Kong branch of TBC Improv, an international improv company with presence in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, and Spain. Founded in Hong Kong in 2014, the group runs shows, courses, jams, and workshops for both public participants and corporate clients, drawing on a mixed ensemble of expatriate and local performers.
History
TBC Improv originated in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 2009, founded by Lauren Berning, Fernando Fresquez, and Sacha Timaeus after they found little existing improv infrastructure to join and built their own. The name, standing for 'To Be Continued,' reflects the 'yes, and' ethos of improvisational continuation. In 2014, Lauren Berning expanded the organization to Hong Kong, establishing TBC Improv HK as a dedicated English-language improv presence in the city. The Hong Kong branch grew to encompass regular jam sessions, structured multi-week courses, and public shows, and became a co-organizer of international improv festival activity in the city.
Artistic Identity
TBC Improv HK blends the cultural diversity of Hong Kong's international population with the traditions of English-language long-form and short-form improv. The group frames improvisation explicitly as a tool for community and inclusivity, aiming to make the practice accessible to participants regardless of background or prior performance experience.
