Zmack Improv Shanghai is an international improv company with over 40 professional actors from dozens of countries, performing in English, Chinese, and French with a Pay What You Want admission model.
History
Zmack began performing improv comedy in Shanghai and grew into one of the city's largest improv organisations, with more than 40 professional improvisation actors from dozens of countries and a trilingual programme in English, Chinese, and French. The company developed multiple teams including ZhiMaKong, a Chinese-language improv team that extended Zmack's reach into the local-language market. Zmack adopted a Pay What You Want admission model, using pricing flexibility to maximise accessibility and build the broadest possible audience base.
Artistic Identity
Zmack operates a multilingual, multi-team model spanning English, Chinese, and French performance, using a Pay What You Want admission structure to keep improv accessible across Shanghai's diverse international and local communities.
Legacy
Zmack's multilingual approach and Chinese-language team ZhiMaKong helped establish improv as a format accessible to Chinese-speaking audiences in Shanghai, extending the form beyond its predominantly English-language base in the city.
